How it works

Why convert HEIC to PNG?
Most people converting from HEIC want JPG, and for sharing that is right. PNG makes more sense when the photo is heading into an editor. Because PNG is lossless, you can crop, retouch and re-save as often as you like without the slow quality creep that repeated JPG saving causes. It is also the format you want if you plan to cut out the background, since PNG supports transparency. The file will be considerably larger than either the HEIC or a JPG — that is the trade for keeping every pixel exactly as decoded.
When this conversion is the right call
- Editing an iPhone photo in Photoshop, GIMP or Figma without generation loss
- Preparing a photo for background removal, which needs transparency support
- Placing an iPhone photo into a design file at full fidelity
- Keeping an exact archival copy before you start making changes
FAQ
Should I pick PNG or JPG?
JPG for sharing, uploading, emailing or printing — smaller and universally accepted. PNG for editing, because it will not degrade when you re-save.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC is a highly efficient compressed format; PNG stores every pixel exactly. A five-fold increase is normal, and it is what you are paying for the lossless copy.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
What is a HEIC file and why convert it?
HEIC is the high-efficiency format iPhones use for photos. It saves space, but many Windows PCs, Android phones and websites can't open it. Converting to PNG gives you a photo that opens everywhere. The first conversion loads a small decoder in your browser; after that it's fast — and nothing is ever uploaded.
What is the maximum file size?
There's no hard limit — it depends on your device's memory. Most photos under 50 MB convert in under a second.
What output quality do you use?
We use a high-quality preset (0.92) that balances visual fidelity and file size. PNG output is always lossless.
